TGF-beta and NADPH oxidases: a perverse association in liver fibrosis and cancer

The Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)-beta plays different, and sometimes contradictory, roles in cancer. During recent years, different members of the NADPH Oxidase (NOX) family have emerged as mediators of TGF-beta actions in pre-tumorigenic situations, such as fibrotic processes, and during tumor progression. In this seminar, I will present recent results from our group that highlight the role of this family in both the anti- and pro-tumorigenic actions of TGF-beta in liver cancer.
